EXTENDING THE LIFE OF YOUR WATERHEATER

Every four to six months drain three to five gallons of water from your waterheater. You can do this by following these simple steps:

  1. Shut-off the cold water intake to the heater.
  2. Open a Hot water faucet on any level above the waterheater.
  3. Open the draw-off located at the bottom of your waterheater.
  4. Drain enough water so that the water will run clear and not rusty.
  5. Shut the draw-off that you just opened.
  6. Shut the hot water faucet that you opened.
  7. Turn back on the cold water intake.
  8. Run all the faucets in the house to they run clear and not rusty.

If you have never done this before and your waterheater is over 5 years old then consult a plumber before doing the steps above.
